We talk about getting out of story and observing phenomena. There is no unknown and you can put the harmful story aside. Now you can ask what it was and work through it. Or, co-worker says, yes, you pissed me off. This give the co-worker a chance to say, No, I was thinking about my parents and the hard thing they go through. She says, "When you came out of the meeting today and sighed, I made up this story that you were made at me and I wanted to check in with you that we were ok." Then she goes and talks with the person directly. Is said co-worker out of sorts? I'm going to be fired, whatever it is.īrene says, go to the bathroom and take 2-5 minutes and understand the story you just put yourself in. That moment, you wonder, did I do something to piss her off? Is she mad at me? Typically, we have a story now that co-worker is mad at us and so we start talking to other people. A co-worker comes out of a meeting and sighs at you. I am so stuck in this way of being right now. We can deal with something as long as we have this black and white view of an unknown event. She has a story in the book about the fact the our brain gives us a chemical hit whenever we make up a story about an event. I think I need to buy her books and simply study them and put them into practice. Her work is powerful and it lands beneath the surface.
